Starting small, but with great support and enthusiasm, we have a growing number of over 30 volunteers. Since our success in ‘South-West in Bloom’ last year, Silver Cup winners, our group grown and as a result we now have an enthusiastic team that meets regularly to plan and organise and carry out the wide ranging number of projects to help improve our village.

We take our lead from the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Britain in Bloom’ campaign, which has had a huge success in encouraging communities throughout the UK to care for where they live.

The ‘In Bloom’ communities tackle everything from litter picking, graffiti and anti-social behaviour through to conservation, sustainability and improved horticultural standards whilst striving to promote a positive impact on sense of place, community spirit and pride in our village.

With this in mind we hope that the Timsbury community will benefit from:

  • Cleaner and greener surroundings
  • A sense of community helped by the improvement of our village’s public spaces.
  • Long term improvement of the environment by addressing issues such as sustainability and conserving natural resources.
  • Positive effect on the local economy such as an increase in business activity including tourism
  • Regeneration of run down and/or disadvantaged areas

We have:

  • Persuaded B&NES to replace damaged street signs, black and white marker bollards, grit bins, and to make repairs to the Bloomfield Road bus shelter, tarmac footpaths and much more.
  • A new village notice board has been installed on YMCA wall in North Road (made by Norton Radstock College woodworking students), see here for Timsbury IN Bloom news
  • Enlisted help from Norton Radstock College Horts students. They worked hard in the Miners’ Memorial Garden and Conygre Hall front beds, which will be further improved this year by the local team.
  • Started refurbishing village benches, carried out sign washing and continued litter picking
  • Entered, again, the ’CPRE Village of the Year’ competition.
  • Village troughs/containers have been repainted, planted and their number increased considerably by new ones, hand made in the village.
  • Contacted the owner of the ‘Bank site’ in The Square and having been given permission, cleared the site to the benefit of all, sponsorship was given by the owner.
  • Publicised our group activities through articles in local newspapers and the Parish Letter, the magazine for good, up to date, information on village events.

Support has been offered in many ways, i.e. financial donations, materials, volunteers’ time/effort. The Parish Council and District CIlr. Doug Deacon constantly give their support and have helped tremendously in our efforts, for which we are extremely grateful.

But we only have very limited funds which we need to boost, so, if you are interested in helping in any way or just wish to find out more information please contact us.

We always welcome suggestions and new ideas for improving our village!
